Burkina Faso: Managing the drinking water supply in Burkina Faso

Intervention area

Barsalogho, a municipality of 100,000 inhabitants in the north central region of Burkina Faso.

 

Aim

To ensure a sustainable drinking water supply by maintaining the distribution network and hydraulic infrastructure.

Actions

  • Establishing a maintenance centre for the 400 waterworks
  • Providing the appropriate equipment for the maintenance centre
  • Training, regularising administrative documents and equipment for craftsmen/repair technicians
  • Officialising the water users’ associations in 50 villages
  • Federating stakeholders for an integrated management of the hydraulic park
  • Raising awareness among local authorities about ad hoc legislation

Impacts

  • Maintenance of hundreds of water pumps
  • Access to drinking water for tens of thousands of people in 50 villages
